Whether you call them snow cleats, snow stops, snow birds, or snow guards, they have an important purpose for anyone with a building that is in a location with snow, ice, or both. The devices are installed onto the roof to make the snow and ice melt slowly rather than falling off the roof in a large piece. Snow guards are essential on slate, tile, synthetic, and metal roofs and may be useful on other roof materials in areas with lots of winter weather.
